National Flute Association: Vista Trio

French Music for Flute, Saxophone and Piano

Join the Vista Trio Lee for a delightful program of French music highlighting the unusual color combinations of flute, saxophone and piano. Bookended with the opening floating, lyrical sounds of Charles Koechlin’s standard Epitaphe de Jean Harlow, and contrasting with the wild, rough and comical sounds of Max Dubois’ Les Tréteaux the programs explores the extremes, as well as the versatility of the combination as a trio.  In between, the Vista Trio showcases Guy LaCour’s Entrelacs for flute and saxophone, and their own version of the ensemble in an arrangement of Gabriel Pierné’s Sonata da Camera, originally for flute, cello and piano, but showcasing beautiful opportunities for blend and color between the two woodwind instruments and the piano.

Puerto Rico Flute Symposium: Guest Clinician

The Puerto Rico Flute Symposium is a branch of the Puerto Rico Summer Music Festival designed to enrich the flute and music communities. This symposium uses masterclasses, panel discussions, and performances to enhance the contributions made by people of color and other minorities in the music field. We are telling these neglected stories to bridge the gap between the realities of the underrepresented and the incomplete depiction displayed by the music industry. Minorities add immense talent to the music industry and should be given a proper place to grow. We believe the best way to serve our community is to reflect it in the concert hall and the classroom, through shared experiences and culturally correct depictions. Historically, music has been used to carry the voices of the marginalized, yet minorities are not properly represented in the industry. Without these voices music remains incomplete, silencing important facets of the human experience. Through this symposium the entire music community can appreciate and participate in the success, happiness, and triumphs of minorities displayed through music, as well as our losses, sorrow, and fears.

Saarburg Music Festival: Faculty

The Saarburger Serenaden, an International Music Festival and School, is set in the romantic city of Saarburg, embedded into vineyards and forests, with the monuments of its millennial history such as the cascade, a unique natural spactacle in the centre of the city, with the water falling down the rock cascades for 20 meters, driving the mill wheels in the basin; with its enchamnting “Little Venice” with rows of houses at the Leuk rivulet built on mighty stakes of oak wood, the picturesque Old Town with the multicoloured houses of the fishers and mariners and last but not least the bell foundry, where the traditional handcraft of bell casting was practiced until 2002, and is conceived as a program which should promote better understanding between various peoples of the world through the music-making. It should stimulate musical and human exchange, provide a podium for the talented young musicians and music lovers, create a peaceful non-competitive environment, in which a desire to express oneself through the music would happily unfold.
